Mp3 Players
There are three main types of mp3 player available, flash storage, micro hard storage and hard storage in increasing
order of capacity.
The flash mp3 players store data in flash memory, a kind of solid state EEPROM which is like RAM but capable of holding
data with no power source. They were the first type of player to appear, and are capable of withstanding a lot of motion
during playback due to being fully electronic, with no moving parts. The downside is that they have the smallest capacity
of the three, weighing in at around 1GB of data storage.
The micro hard storage mp3 players are the mid range storage. They have mechanical hard drives to which you can write data,
but since the hard drive is partially mechanical it can be vulnerable to damage if jarred at a vulnerable moment. That
means hard drives shouldn't be moved much while playing. The micro hard storage players' main advantage over the flash
player is capacity, as they can hold up to 5GB of data.
The hard storage mp3 players are the big guns when it comes to capacity, some hold up to 60 GB of data. They are, however,
vulnerable to the same things as the micro hard storage players and jarring the player during playback can result in damage.
Many people find that varying needs during different activities mean that owning both flash MP3 players and a hard storage
players is a worthwhile option.
